The black date & walnut soft candy is a traditional snack in Taiwan, usually eaten around Chinese New Year and had with tea. Its not commonly found these days, because of the amount of work that goes into it. Traditional malt sugar ( made using malt and glutinous rice) has been added as a sweetener, arrowroot powder has been added to give the candy texture ( instead of cornstarch). No preservatives.
