Happy Women's Day!!

One of the most unexpected and delightful aspects of starting our business has been the opportunity to make new friends along the way. From the curious shoppers who first visited our shop in Tiong Bahru, we've formed lasting friendships with some truly remarkable women who share our passion for food & community.
Catherine is super close with her mom, and the two of them are regular shoppers around Tiong Bahru. They have a real appreciation for food that tastes authentic and traditional - what we like to call "古早味." Their discerning palates have been instrumental in helping us keep our product selection tight. In fact, it was Catherine who taught me the secret to making a simple pork-rib daikon soup taste absolutely phenomenal by first marinating the pork ribs in koji. ( too bad, we actually had to stop selling the koji because the live cultures kept multiplying and causing the bottles to leak in our humid shop! Sian.)
Then there's Kenny, our resident health aficionado. When it comes to groceries for herself and her husband, Kenny is all about the "free stuff" - sugar-free, hormone-free, pesticide-free, you name it! She's passionate about keeping their health tip-top and is a huge supporter of small businesses like ours. We love that she often buys our products to gift to her friends and has even organised gatherings for small business owners-kakis to lim-teh together.
And we can't forget about Yingge, who used to visit our shop with her two little boys in tow. Yingge loves hearing the stories behind our producers and has dreams of doing something similar herself one day. For now, though, her focus is on making sure her growing teenage boys (can you believe how quickly they've grown up?) are eating well, growing tall and less of growing sideways.
Women play an integral role in our business - in fact, 75% of our followers on Facebook and Instagram are women! Forecasts suggest that by 2028, women will own a whopping 75% of household discretionary spending. Interestingly, the data also indicates that shoppers are heavily influenced by their partners (70%) and children (30%) when it comes to making those final purchasing decisions.
We're curious - who or what influences your purchasing decisions? Leave us a comment below and let us know!
Based on the stories and experiences of our friends, it's evident that women have a lot on their minds when it comes to grocery shopping. They're often considering not just their own needs and preferences, but also those of the people they care for - their families, friends - while growing their own careers!
On this Women's Day (and every day too la!), let's make a point to recognize and appreciate all the incredible women in our lives.
Here's to you, ladies! Happy Women's Day!
